Gas Certificate of Compliance in Cape Town

A Gas Certificate of Compliance in Cape Town must be issued when there is a change of ownership in terms of Regulation 17(3) of the Pressure Equipment Regulations OHS ACT of 1993. There is a duty on homeowners if they decide to implement a gas system to hold a leak test and external inspection after the installation and before the commissioning of a gas system. This can only be performed by authorised individuals who must issue a certificate of conformity after the completion of a gas modification, alteration, installation or change of ownership.

How to prepare for a Gas Certificate of Compliance

  1. All pipes must be in the right quantities and the correct position, and must be of the correct size for the flow of gas.
  2. Apartments above ground floor are only allowed a designated amount of 9kg of gas.
  3. A quick method to check for gas leaks is to spray soapy water on all of the joints and connections on the gas line, and if there are any leaks bubbles will instantly start to form.
  4. If the property has permanent liquid gas installations such as gas hobs, gas hot water systems and fireplaces etc. an inspection will be required.
